If you are looking for an original Venice painting rather than a print, the first practical question is size. The My Love Letter to Venice collection by Sergei Moskalev runs from intimate 30×40 cm canvases to a 100×150 cm centerpiece, almost all painted in oil and gold leaf on canvas. This guide walks through the collection by size, so you can match a painting to the wall you actually have.

What you are buying: original oil and gold leaf on canvas
Every painting in the Venice series is a one-of-a-kind original. Most combine oil paint with gold leaf, which catches the light in your room and changes through the day. A few, such as Venice 026 and Venice 003, are oil on canvas without gold leaf, for a softer, more matte surface. Each artwork page lists the exact size in centimetres and inches and the medium.
Small Venice paintings (30×40 to 40×50 cm)
Small canvases suit a hallway, a study, a bedroom wall or a gallery wall alongside other pieces. They are also the easiest size to give as a gift.

- My Love Letter to Venice 010 (30×40 cm | 12×16 in): a canal at sunset, a domed church glowing in the distance and a lone gondola crossing the water.
- Venice 009 (30×40 cm) and Venice 008 (40×30 cm, portrait orientation).
- Venice 014 (40×50 cm, oil on canvas) and Venice 013 (40×50 cm, oil and gold leaf).
Medium Venice paintings (40×60 to 50×70 cm)
This is the largest group in the collection and the most flexible size: above a console table, a bed or a sideboard, or as a pair.
- My Love Letter to Venice 025 (40×60 cm | 16×24 in) is built around Santa Maria della Salute. In Sergei’s words: “There is a quiet majesty to Santa Maria della Salute that feels almost timeless.”
- My Love Letter to Venice 016 (50×70 cm | 20×28 in) follows a gondola along a narrow canal beneath the curve of a walking bridge, in soft lavenders, ochres and greens touched with gold leaf.
- My Love Letter to Venice 017 (50×70 cm) is about colour changing through the day: “I love the ever-changing colors of Venice, the way they shift and dance as the day moves from morning to evening.”

For a narrow wall above a sofa or bed, the panoramic My Love Letter to Venice 020 (40×70 cm | 16×28 in) shows the arrival in Venice by boat, with the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute rising in the distance.
Large Venice paintings (60×90 to 80×120 cm)
Large canvases hold a living room or dining room wall on their own. Leave space around them so the gold leaf can catch the light.
- My Love Letter to Venice 007 (60×90 cm | 24×36 in): a narrow canal toward a small arched bridge, with moored gondolas and warm lights from the buildings on either side.
- My Love Letter to Venice 004 (70×80 cm | 28×32 in): “Venice feels like a memory that never fully fades.”
- Venice 031 and Venice 032 (both 80×120 cm | 32×47 in): the small bridges of Venice, and Santa Maria della Salute, which Sergei calls “a love letter in stone and light”.
Statement pieces (100×80 and 100×150 cm)
My Love Letter to Venice 029 (100×150 cm | 39×59 in) is one of the largest works in the series: café lights glimmering along the canal as evening falls, gondolas passing beneath a small bridge, built in dense strokes of gold, red and blue. Venice 033 (100×80 cm | 39×32 in) is a near-square alternative for a wall that is tall rather than wide.
How to choose the right size
- Measure the wall, not the room. Above furniture, a painting usually looks right at about two-thirds of the furniture’s width.
- Pick the orientation first. Panoramic (40×70 cm) suits long, low walls. Portrait or near-square works suit narrow walls and stairways.
- Think about light. Gold leaf comes alive under warm evening light and side light from a window, so consider where the painting will hang at night.
Want a Venice scene in a different size?
If none of the sizes fits your wall, Sergei also takes commissions. To ask about a specific Venice painting, its availability, or a custom size, send a message through the contact page. Include the painting number (for example “Venice 029”) and the width of your wall.
